Today, Tomorrow, and Beyond...

Most people have a good understanding of what they want to accomplish. However, as family wealth increases, so does the complexity of financial planning and investment management needs.  Unfortunately, we often find that investors' goals and intentions are not well coordinated between their various professional partners (financial, investment, insurance, tax, business, etc.) into a holistic strategy.

We can lead the integration and on-going maintenance of your planning efforts between professional partners to ensure that the various components are reviewed, updated, and efficiently managed.  We provide access to a secure, collaborative, client portal and vault so that your financial life is easy to store, reference, and update – no matter where you are.

Good planning is a process not an event - It’s not uncommon for us to spend more time with a client’s other trusted professionals than they do.

Private Market Wealth Creation…

Most high net worth families build their wealth by operating successful private businesses and owning tangible assets - things that are scarce and can’t be diluted.  We generally find that these same investors want to use a portion of their investment capital to continue building wealth in a similar fashion.

We bring clients ideas and private investment opportunities that help them make smart decisions about their wealth.  We perform rigorous due diligence on a variety of private market offerings and allow clients to participate in well vetted and transparent investments in areas such as income producing commercial real estate, natural resources, real estate development, and early stage technology companies.

We provide access to private investment opportunities that investors are familiar with and understand.

Client-Centric Investment Portfolios…

Investors define risk differently than investment portfolio managers.  Investors think of risk in terms of “absolute” performance – How much did their investment portfolio go up or down?  However, most investment managers are mandated to measure their “relative” performance – Did they beat the appropriate benchmark?  As a result, investment manager behavior is often in conflict with investors’ desires and expectations.

We reject the idea of a buy and hold – and hope – portfolio.  We believe that any investment strategy that attempts to limit large losses must have systems in place that actively reduce portfolio risk during periods of stress.  Contrary to conventional wisdom, periods of high market risk can be identified.  We take measured actions in an effort to protect clients against severe downturns and preserve their capital.

An investment manager who “only” lost 35% when the respective benchmark declined 40% would have been deemed to have done a good job.
